Clarkson Professor's Articles Appear on Top 25 Hottest List

Two recent articles authored by Clarkson University Professor Dipankar Roy, with graduate and undergraduate students, have appeared on Elsevier Science Direct's Top 25 Hottest Articles list. ScienceDirect is a digital library for science, technical and medical information.

The two articles are among the most read articles as counted by downloads on ScienceDirect.

Roy's first paper, "Electro-oxidation of methanol on gold in alkaline media: Adsorption characteristics of reaction intermediates studied using time resolved electro-chemical impedance and surface plasmon resonance techniques," by K.A. Assiongbon and D. Roy was published in Surface Science, 594 (2005) 99-119. This article appeared on ScienceDirect's Top 25 Hottest Articles at http://top25.sciencedirect.com/index.php?cat_id=6& ;subject_area_id=6&journal_id=00396028 list for October-December 2005. The paper describes the Clarkson group's research in the development of novel electrode materials for direct methanol fuel cells.

The second paper, "Electrochemical impedance characteristics of Ta/Cu contact regions in polishing slurries used for chemical mechanical planarization of Ta and Cu: considerations of galvanic corrosion," by K.A. Assiongbon, S.B. Emery, V.R.K. Gorantla, S.V. Babu and D. Roy appeared in Corrosion Science, 48 (2006) 372-388. This paper was included in ScienceDirect's January-March 2006 Top 25 Hottest Articles at http://top25.sciencedirect.com/index.php?subject_area_id=&;journal_id=&cat_id=7 The report addresses certain fundamental issues of the chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) technique, and is a result of ongoing collaborative efforts in this area between the research groups of Professors Roy and Babu. S.V. Babu is the Distinguished Clarkson Professor and director of Clarkson's Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP).

ScienceDirect is a part of Elsevier (http://www.elsevier.com), headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The company is the world's largest provider of information for researchers and librarians. The company offers researchers and librarians over 15,000 journals, as well as books and secondary databases.

Roy received his bachelor of science and master's of science degrees from the University of Calcutta and his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His research interests include: Chemical mechanical and electrochemical mechanical planarization, electro-catalysis, nanomaterials for energy storage and conversion devices, corrosion monitoring, surface Plasmon resonance sensors and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Roy has published 70 scientific articles in refereed journals. Additional information about the research work presented in the above articles is available on Prof. Roy's research group's Web site at http://people.clarkson.edu/~samoy/cr_projects.htm.
