Abdul J. Jerri, Professor Emeritus in Clarkson University's Division of Mathematics and Computer Science has been logging lots of airline miles of late. Jerri, whose research interests include integral and discrete transforms, sampling expansions, Gibbs phenomena (the oscillatory behavior observed when a square wave is reconstructed from a finite number of harmonics), and transform-iterative methods for nonlinear problems has been a presenter at workshops in Turkey and South Korea and lecturer in Italy and Japan.
Last July, Jerri was a key speaker at the Sampling Theory and its Applications (SampTA05) Workshop in Samsun, Turkey on the Black Sea. The workshops have been ongoing since 1995.
The following week, Jerri was an invited speaker at the International Workshop of Applications of Wavelets to Real World Problems Workshop (IWW05) in Istanbul, Turkey. On that same trip, he gave a lecture at the University of Perugia, Perugia, Italy.
The topics of Jerri's lectures are related to two books which are about to be published, one on wavelets and another on the Gibbs phenomenon. He is also the author of four related advanced mathematics texts and reference materials. Jerri is the founding executive director of the journal Sampling Theory in Signal and Image Processing: An International Journal, which is housed in the Division of Mathematics and Computer Science in Arts and Sciences School of Clarkson University, and is published by Sampling Publishing, Potsdam, New York. The journal is now in its fifth volume.
Jerri received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Baghdad, and a Masters degree in Physics from the Illinois University of Technology. He earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Oregon State University. He was a visiting associate professor at American University in Cairo from 1972 - 1974 and 1986 - 1988. Jerri authored or co-authored scholarly articles and was twice a Fulbright Scholar.
