Clarkson University Consulting Group Completes Study Of Morristown Central School District
The Clarkson Consulting Group (CCG) recently completed an extensive, customized analysis for Morristown Central School regarding the continued viability of its school district.
The Morristown Central School, a small district with 445 students in K-12, wanted to assure that it is providing a quality education to students there without needlessly duplicating service available in bordering districts. CCG documented the efforts made by nearby school districts in prior years regarding the sharing of resources or a possible merger with adjoining districts, The students also studied the current, and likely, future situation regarding demand for school services and assessed the implications of alternative reorganization scenarios and the impact on the community and students.
”The Clarkson students interviewed the Morristown students, teachers and board of education members, and summarized those results along with presenting a financial analysis,” said Stub Estey, the director of Consulting Services for CCG. “CCG took no position as to which option should be selected because the choice will be up to the school board and the community of Morristown.”
A team of eight Clarkson graduate and undergraduate students worked on the study through the summer until early December, meticulously analyzing numerous options, including potential mergers, resource sharing, student tuition, and status quo. CCGs exhaustive findings were produced in a concise 40-page document, detailing the alternatives available to the school district.
”The study captured regional history, clarified and defined available options, and reflects input from students, staff and board of education,” said Beverly Ouderkirk, the interim superintendent of the Morristown School District. “The CCG team was energetic and dedicated. I … value their product.”
CCG is part of an advanced business course at Clarkson University School of Business that brings together teams of student consultants with clients who seek information related to marketing research, growth and expansion, feasibility studies, Internet technology, organized development, or other business issues.
CCG was established in the fall of 1989 to provide commercial and not-for-profit organizations of all sizes with high-quality management consulting at a considerably reduced cost. A team of consultants, primarily candidates for a Clarkson MBA degree, is chosen for each consulting assignment and is responsible for project management and delivery of the agreed-upon outcomes. All of the projects involve direct consultant/client interface, thorough analysis, and preparation and presentation of professional-style reports. A Clarkson faculty member performs project oversight and review.
