Clarkson University Pre-physical Therapy Students To Hold Fitness Screening
Clarkson University pre-physical therapy students will offer a free “FUNfitness” screening at the Cheel Campus Center on Saturday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is being conducted in observance of National Physical Therapy Month.
FUNfitness is the comprehensive physical therapy component of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Healthy Athletes initiative. FUNfitness is designed to assess and improve flexibility, functional strength and balance; to educate participants, families and coaches about the importance of flexibility, strength and balance; and to provide a hands-on opportunity for participants to learn about physical therapy.
At this FUNfitness screening event, pre-physical therapy students will assess flexibility of the hamstring, calf, shoulder rotator, and hip flexor muscles; functional strength of the abdominal and lower extremity muscles; and balance (single-leg stance and functional reach).
The FUNfitness program was developed by the American Physical Therapy Association for the Special Olympics "Healthy Athletes" program. It premiered in March 2001 at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Anchorage, Alaska.
FUNfitness also provides "take-away" educational materials for athletes and information for families and coaches about the importance of and methods to improve flexibility, functional strength and balance in sports performance and activities of daily living.
