Clarkson Students Present Research At Professional Society Meeting
Three Clarkson University mechanical engineering students were among ten students nationwide invited to present original research last month at a student paper competition held during the Society of Engineering Sciences annual conference at Pennsylvania State University.
Graduate students Vennela Challa (Potsdam) and Thadeus Casey (Casco, Maine) and senior Matthew M. Braun (Hamburg, N.Y.) each presented papers and received a $500 honorarium from the U.S. Office of Naval Research and the Penn State College of Engineering, sponsors of the competition.
Casey, who also received his bachelor of science degree at Clarkson, was awarded third prize and $250 for his presentation, “Experimental Analysis of Compaction Band Formation in Aluminum Foam Using Strain Mapping.”
Both Casey and Challa’s work was conducted as part of their master’s degree research. Braun, who plans to enter graduate school next fall, presented research he conducted last summer for his honors thesis.
