Poojitha D. Yapa of Hannawa Falls, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Clarkson University, has been named associate editor of the Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, a professional publication of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
The Journal is the preeminent peer-review publication for original research into the analyses and solutions of problems related to hydraulic engineering and water resources.
Yapa has a longtime professional association with the publication as both a contributor of original research and as a frequent reviewer. His appointment to the editorial staff recognizes this involvement, as well as his reputation and stature in the field.
“It is an honor to become associated with this publication in an official capacity,” said Yapa. “I look forward to maintaining its high standards and its commitment to advancing knowledge within the hydraulic engineering community.”
Yapa received his doctoral degree in civil engineering from Clarkson, and joined its faculty in 1985. His expertise is in diverse aspects of pollutant transport and fate in water. He is considered a leading authority in the mathematical and hydraulic modeling of oil spills in rivers, lakes and offshore locations, and deepwater oil and gas spills, and is frequently consulted by industry and government agencies.
