Mccafferty '70 Of Duxbury Receives Clarkson University's Highest Alumni Honor

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Thomas H. McCafferty of Duxbury, Mass., president and chief operating officer of Beaver Builders, Ltd., has received the Golden Knight Award from his alma mater, Clarkson University. Presented each year during Reunion Weekend, Clarkson's most prestigious alumni award is given to alumni who have distinguished themselves either by service to Clarkson through Alumni Association activities or have demonstrated outstanding career achievement, bringing distinction to themselves and to Clarkson.
McCafferty received his bachelor of science degree in industrial management from Clarkson in 1970. He began his career in construction management with the Turner Construction Company. He gained additional construction management experience with Perkins & Will before being named executive vice president of W.F. Holt Company in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1973. In 1980, McCafferty joined Beaver Builders, Ltd., one of New England’s most successful companies offering complete construction management and design/build services. In addition to his work at Beaver Builders, he is also president of Dataline Management Systems and a partner with Packard Development, both wholly owned subsidiaries of Beaver Builders.
McCafferty has been very active with the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), serving both the national and state organizations. He has held the office as Treasurer, Vice President and President of the state chapter of the ABC in Massachusetts and has served that national organization as both a member of the Board of Directors and the President’s Advisory Council. For his efforts, the national ABC selected him as the Beam Club Man of the Year in 1993, and has twice been selected the Region 7 Beam Club Man of the Year for his work with the state organization.
McCafferty’s many civic and charitable involvements include The Duxbury Education Foundation; The Jordan Hospital, Inc.; The George Gould Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament and Handikids, a nonprofit organization which provides social and recreation facilities for underprivileged and mentally retarded children. McCafferty has been very active for many years as a coach, board member, and officer for both Youth Hockey and Baseball Associations in his hometown of Duxbury, Massachusetts. For his efforts, he has received Coach of the Year honors and was presented the Mike Tenney Award for his outstanding contribution to Duxbury Youth Hockey.
McCafferty remains an avid Golden Knight hockey fan, and has served the Clarkson Alumni Association as a member of the Board of Governors and the Alumni National Executive Council. He has returned to campus as an Alumni Career Day speaker, and has twice served as chair for his class reunions. McCafferty was a volunteer for the Arena Design Fund Committee and is currently a Class Partner for the Campaign for Clarkson.
Clarkson University is an independent institution located in northern New York, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. The University has 2,902 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in programs in its schools of Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts, and Science, and its Interdisciplinary Engineering and Management program.
