Michael Cooper Named Clarkson University Vice President For Institutional Advancement

Potsdam, N.Y. — Clarkson University President Denny Brown has appointed Michael E. Cooper, of Potsdam, vice president for Institutional Advancement. Cooper had served as vice president for Student Affairs since 1993.
“Over the past 14 years, Mike Cooper has developed an intimate knowledge of this institution,” said President Brown. “This wealth of information and experience will serve him well, as he represents Clarkson to our external constituencies. As we move into a comprehensive campaign, I am confident that he will excel in his new position as V.P. for Institutional Advancement.”
In his new role, Cooper will be responsible for the Development, Alumni Relations, University Communications, Career Development and Government Relations offices.
Cooper came to Clarkson in 1984 as dean of students, serving in that capacity until 1993. Previous to that he was associate dean of students at SUNY Canton. Cooper was a Fulbright senior scholar to the United States-German International Education seminar for administrators in 1993, and was inducted into Phalanx, Clarkson’s highest honorary society, in 1991. He is a charter member and secretary/treasurer of the Northern New York Chapter of the Fulbright Association, a former trustee of the St. Lawrence Valley Educational Television Council, and a Potsdam Junior Hockey Association coach. Cooper has a Ph.D. from Syracuse University, an M.Ed. From St. Lawrence University and a B.A. from the University at Albany.
Cooper and his wife, Andrea, have a son, Adam, who is a freshman at St. Lawrence University, and a daughter, Allie, a sophomore at Potsdam High School.
