Clarkson Solar Knights Receive First Place And $9,000 Grant For Sunrayce Proposal
Potsdam, N.Y. – The Clarkson University Solar Electric Vehicle Racing Team, the Solar Knights, has been awarded first place for their proposal to enter Sunrayce '99. The award comes with a $9,000 grant the team will use in building their fifth car. The first-place proposal was chosen from among 44 colleges and universities across North America.
The proposal initiated by freshman Jubin Mathew of Goshen, N.Y., in November. Mathew worked under the guidance of the Solar Knights executive board and faculty advisers professors Eric Thacher and Larry Compeau. Jubin collected information from past Sunrayce proposals and prepared his outline during Ice Storm '98.
Components of the proposal were written by senior Craig Evans of Rome, N.Y., project engineer; sophomore Scott Leonard of Black River, mechanical systems division coordinator; junior Alison Green of Casco, Maine, electrical systems division coordinator; junior Jason MacDowell of Burnt Hills, N.Y., past electrical team leader; junior Brian Lisiecki of Charlotte, N.C., project administrator and acting marketing division coordinator; and senior Daniel Lyskawa of Clay, N.Y., financial division coordinator.
