Meier Announces Funding For T-3 Link: Clarkson University, St. Lawrence County To Benefit From Faster Internet Access, State Senator Says
POTSDAM, N.Y. — Senator Raymond A. Meier, R-C, Western, today announced that he has secured state funding to improve and expand Internet connections for universities and businesses throughout
St. Lawrence County.
At a news conference held at Clarkson University, Meier disclosed he has obtained $145,000 to install a “T-3” line which will dramatically increase the volume and speed of Internet connections in the county. The new technology will allow local Internet users to retrieve significantly more information in less time than current technology allows.
“I'm pleased to be able to provide this funding to improve the business and educational climate in the northernmost portion of the 47th Senate District,” Meier said. “Businesspeople, educators and students all depend on current information to be successful. In today's world, these same people find themselves in need of more and more information in a shorter time frame.
“I'm confident this T‑3 line will greatly expand their capabilities to retrieve an essential resource. The resulting infrastructure will help lay the technological foundation necessary to compete in the 21st century.”
Clarkson President Denny Brown, speaking on behalf of the University communities, said, “This new connection to the information superhighway will allow our students, faculty and staff an opportunity to obtain information quickly from anywhere. We are grateful to Senator Meier for his efforts on behalf of all the libraries and educational institutions in the North Country who will see improved Internet access.”
