Applications are sought from undergraduates interested in spending their summer participating in mathematics research projects. Topics to be explored include:
- Graph theory with Professor Tino Tamon,
- Graph and knot theory with Professor Joel Foisy.
- Algebra with Professor Derek Habermas;
- Growth of Algebras with Harold Ellingsen.
Students will work in groups of three or four with a faculty adviser from SUNY Potsdam or Clarkson University. The program will run for eight weeks starting June 1 - July 24, 2009. Participants will receive at least a $3,300.00 stipend plus free housing in an on-campus apartment. Up to $250 is available for travel expenses in getting to Potsdam. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
Student must be full-time undergraduate students as of September 2009. Applicants should have completed the calculus sequence, linear algebra and at least one more upper-level undergraduate course.
The program will be conducted on the campus of SUNY College at Potsdam, with the resources of nearby Clarkson University also available. SUNY Potsdam is widely known for its undergraduate mathematics program, and Clarkson University has an international reputation for scientific research.
To ensure full consideration, complete applications must be received by February 20, 2009. Electronic applications will not be accepted, unless the applicant is overseas. Interested applicants should submit a letter of intent (1-2 typed pages) and a transcript (unofficial is OK) along with their application and (2) reference forms.
