Loan Periods:
Physical Therapy books circulate for a 24-hour period. Special requests may be granted from the PT Library Coordinator.
PT journals, reference books and semester shelf reserves do not circulate. PT Video collection circulates and may be borrowed.
Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy to you but you are still responsible for any material that is not returned or renewed even though you may not receive a note.
You may fill out a receipt and have it signed by the library coordinator when you return materials to the library. This will help in avoiding any problems.
Recalls:
Books may be recalled if another user needs them. A recall notice can be sent on any material that has been checked out for more than 24 hours. Material that is recalled should be returned immediately to the library. If it is not returned, the borrowers account will be charged for the price of the item so that the library can purchase a replacement copy.
Finding Books and Journals:
The library has an automated catalog, Horizon, which can be used to locate books in the Main Campus library and the PT library. A search can be done using the author's name, the title of the book, subject or keyword. Horizon can be accessed on a workstation in the library and on the web here.
PT books are classified by the Dewey Decimal System. They are located in Clarkson Hall, 2nd floor library area. If the catalog indicated that material is in Room 305 (Closed Stacks), a request must be made for the material. (See the section titled "Closed Stacks").
Journals owned by the PT Department are listed in the library catalog. A record for each journal shows details of which volumes are held. The PT Journal collection is classified by the library of congress (LC) cataloging system, but is SHELVED in alphabetical order.
Closed Stacks (Room 305):
There is a room on the third floor of Clarkson Hall that houses older library materials and is also used as a classroom. This area is not open to the public. The library materials are available by filling out a Request form and turning in to the library coordinator.
Requested material is retrieved from closed stacks at scheduled times and held in the library coordinator's office to be picked up by the request, or put in the students mailbox. It will be held for one week before being returned to closed stacks (Room 305).
Semester Shelves:
Faculty may put copies of homework solutions, old tests, or supplemental reading materials for courses on the semester reserve shelves in the library. These materials should be handed to the library coordinator with note explaining what semester, course number etc.
Online Computer Searching:
In addition to numerous printed abstracts and indices in the library, there are various automated systems, which can be used to find journal articles relating to a particular subject. Links to these resources may be found on the Physical Therapy Resources page.
You may also pay to use several computerized systems, which are available only during the evening. The full Chemical Abstracts database and several other professional and research databases are available at the Main Library located in the ERC building on the hill campus.
The hours of access during the semester when classes are in session are Monday-Thursday, 7pm-9pm.
Neighboring libraries:
You may use your Clarkson ID to borrow library materials from St. Lawrence, SUNY Potsdam and Canton College of Technology. Catalogs for these colleges can be found on the Physical Therapy Resources page.
Interlibrary Loan:
If you are looking for material that is not owned by Clarkson, you may request it from another library by using the Physical Therapy Interlibrary Loan. An Interlibrary Loan form should be filled out and turned in to the library coordinator. Please ask for help if you do not have complete information.
Copier:
The PT Library has a photocopier and a network printer that is available for public use. Coins are needed for making copies, the library photocopier does not take vendor cards. The library does not have change.
Please ask the library coordinator if you have any questions concerning library services or policies. Our goal is to make your visits to the library productive and enjoyable.
