Employer Information

International Students & Scholars are required to now show proof of employment or evidence of a job offer at the time they submit their application for a social security number. A sample letter can be found here.

The following details are necessary to include in the letter:

    • The name of the student
    • The name of the Department/Company that has offered the on-campus employment
    • The nature of the student’s job (what is the position)
    • The employment start date
    • The number of hours per week
    • Employer name & telephone number
    • Name of the student’s immediate supervisor
    • Employers original signature – title – and date

Once the letter has been prepared please print on official letterhead with an original signature and give to the student. An individual letter must be completed for each student and is only needed for eligible students needing a social security number.

The student will then take this letter along with the rest of the application materials to the Social Security Office in Ogdensburg, NY.

Please note –
for those students who have been granted a teaching or research assistantship and have a copy of their contract letter, the above mentioned letter will not be needed.

You may contact the International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO) for additional questions or concerns.
