On Campus Employment

J students in good standing and who are engaged in a full course of study are elgible for on-campus employment - this employment is limited to 20 hours/week while school is in session. During official schoool breaks and vacations students can work full-time. All employment for J1 students must be authorized by the ISSO.

Note: Please remember that the primary purpose while is the United States is to gain an education – not necessarily to engage in employment.

On-campus jobs may be difficult to obtain since some offices/areas can only hire US citizens who are federal work-study eligible – therefore – typically students will find work in the campus dining facilities.

To be authorized to engage in employment related to a fellowship - assistantship or other on-campus work - please complete a Request for J1 employment authorization form and submit to the ISSO for review and approval. This employment cannot begin before the necessary authorization from the International Students & Scholars Office.

Employment will only be authorized in 12 month increments. Please contact the ISSO for any updates and changes to your employment.
