"In summer 1999, I arrived on campus as an intimidated pre-feshman, disoriented and uncertain," says Kristin Griffiths '03.
Today Kirsten is a doctoral student in chemistry at UCLA and was picked to participate in the U.S. delegation to the Annual Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students in Lindua, Germany. There she rubbed shoulders with 54 Novel Prize winners in the sciences. Kirsten has also held National Science Foundation fellowships.
It was started the summer before her freshmen year, when she participated in the Honors pre-frosh research experience.

- In what ways have you demonstrated curiosity and a love of learning?
- In which types of situations have you found it easiest to feel motivated and involved? In which do you find it difficult to be motivated or involved?
- What are some of the things you feel the Honors Program should be offering you?
- What reactions do you have about the possibility for a substantial amount of research or project work, and how have you been involved in team efforts in the past? What have you learned about team work or working in groups?
