Matt McCabe: Face-off With the Future
Matt McCabe ’13 has two major interests at Clarkson: global supply chain management and Golden Knights lacrosse. He credits his dad for both of them.
Growing up, Matt was fascinated with his father’s job at Magna Powertrain, a leading supplier to the worldwide automotive industry. That led to Matt’s global supply chain management major at Clarkson. “I get to study the whole logistics process, from raw materials all the way to the end customer,” he explains.
Dad also signed up Matt—at age 6—for a lacrosse team, which led to West Genesee High School (New York) lacrosse, and then to Golden Knights Division 3 lacrosse. Matt had sought a university with a winning lacrosse team and a leading supply chain program, and he found them both at Clarkson.
Now Matt is a top scorer on a team that he says is “really starting to gel” and give Golden Knights fans some lacrosse stick action to cheer about. Still, he says, “We put a lot of time into lacrosse, but our coaches understand that academics come first.” In addition to his classroom studies, Matt has participated in a Clarkson program based in Canada, learning firsthand about that country’s government and business practices. This summer, he plans to gain real-world experience at the internship required of all Clarkson supply chain majors. In 2013, he’ll be ready to put his business experience and athletic teamwork skills to work as he begins his supply chain career.
