Students taking classes outside on the Clarkson campus

Projects - Nature's Course

The mission of the Nature's Course project is to preserve a natural piece of the Clarkson Hill campus as a wild area where the Clarkson community can go to learn, relax, and simply be able to enjoy the natural environment of this region without the need travel. The proposed area is approximately 200 acres in size and is centered around a large beaver-created bog. Within this area, there are 6-7 distinct types of forest that are prime examples for study of both flora and fauna. This truly makes the area a valuable tool for both education and relaxation.

Currently, students from a diverse group of academic majors are working together both as volunteers and as participants in the MP132 class for which they can receive academic credit. These students are working to complete a biodiversity survey of the area, species inventories, construction of an elevated observation deck, planning proposed foot trails, removing litter, and studying the area in general.
