Advanced Placement
Credit for courses taken before entering Clarkson as a Freshman must be arranged with the Student Administrative Services (SAS). This must be done before the end of the Freshman year. It is advisable to attend to this immediately. (SAS is located in the center of the Cubley-Reyonlds-Ross-Brooks dormitory complex.)
What If I'm Ahead?
Some students, due to AP credit or for other reasons, are ahead of their class. This section suggests some alternatives to consider if you are in this situation.
Freshmen: If you are ahead in mathematics, you can usually just take the next math course in the required sequence. If you have credit for chemistry, physics, or computer programming, you should fill the available slot with a liberal studies elective.
Sophomores: Courses generally taken later, which may be taken earlier include ES 340, EE 381 (in the spring), a management elective (remember to check the prerequisites), or another liberal studies elective. Mathematics electives are also a good choice if you have completed the four required math courses.
Juniors: If you are ahead at this point, you can take ES 340, a management elective, a liberal studies lective, or a professional elective.
Seniors: If you do not need 30 credits during your Senior year, you can use the additional credits to take anything you want, or you can choose to take less than 15 credits per semester. Remember that if you are registered for less than 12 credits, you will not be classified as a full time student.
Off Campus Courses
If you intend to take a course off campus during the summer, you should get some off-campus forms from the department office before going home for Spring Break. These forms indicate what information about the course is required. During Spring Break, students should obtain that information for any courses they might take over the summer. (Note that this information includes a course description.) After Spring Break, you should first review each course with your advisor to verify that it will meet a graduation requirement. Finally, submit the form to the department offering the equivalent course at Clarkson.

Graduate Courses
Undergraduate students may take 500-level courses if they have a GPA of 3.0 or better. They may take 600-level courses if they have a GPA of 3.5 or better. Students may use graduate courses as professional electives or undesignated electives. If they are not needed to meet graduation requirements, they may be used towards a Master's degree at Clarkson and most other schools, provided the grade is a B or better. A maximum of six credits (2 courses) may be applied to a Master's.
Pass - No Entry Courses
The only courses that can be taken pass-no entry are undesignated electives. To take a course pass-no entry, you must fill out a form and have your advisor sign it.
