to all of you and a heartfelt welcome to the Class of 2012!
On behalf of the 37,000 alums who have come before you, we
once again wish you the very best as you embark on the next phase of
your life. We are here if you need a hand or helpful advice; we hope
you will join us now and in the future to help Clarkson continue to
grow and prosper for future generations.
We often and appropriately thank the members of the Clarkson
Alumni Council for their support and assistance. Many of you may
not realize that as a non-dues-paying Alumni Association, we could
not function and flourish without the administrative and financial
support of President Tony Collins and his team. Without the support
of Tony, VP of Philanthropy & Alumni Relations Dick Johnson,
Associate VP of Alumni Relations Steve Newkofsky, and VP of
External Relations Kelly Chezum — and the rest of the team — the Association could
not provide the variety of activities and services to our community.
This past year, the Clarkson Board of Directors, in collaboration with the Office of
Alumni Affairs and the Alumni Association, conducted an Alumni Survey. The response was
overwhelmingly positive, but you still gave us a lot to think about, including new ideas and
strategies to better communicate andmeet the needs of our international alumni community.
Steve Newkofsky is leading an effort to bring the University to the alumni through programs like
an online Alumni Webinar Series. Additionally, efforts are underway on campus to better connect
current students with the Alumni Association. The Alumni Council has also begun to build a
five-year strategic plan using the alumni survey results as a starting point.
Reunion 2012 was a smashing success. The weather was great, Moore House was
ready with its new, renovated facilities, attendance was up and we inaugurated the
Reunion Keynote Speaker series with a sensational presentation by Alexandra Cousteau
granddaughter of the legendary Jacques Cousteau).
If you have not been back to campus in a while, you would be amazed by the ongoing
transformation of the campus. And there is still much more to come, especially the
development of the riverfront.
Once again, thanks to all of you — the Clarkson alumni — who help us “pay it back”
to the University.
Let’s Go Tech!
