Not up for the competition? Come watch and be entered into raffles for CU prizes! CU at Last Knight Standing! April 26 Here's the Q&A Portion of Faculty Friday's Kathleen Fowler's Interview! Q) What is the best part of teaching? A) For me, the absolute best part of teaching usually happens after students have used something they learned from me in another class, on a research project, or at an internship and they email me and say "WOW! I use (insert mathematical method here) all the time." Then I know I did a good job, because my purpose is to teach students how to use and appreciate mathematics in solving real world problems outside of my classes. Q) What is the funniest thing that happened in a class of yours? A) There is a balloon animal incident that comes to mind. Another time, I was teaching in the large lecture hall and I had one student who would show up late every day and walk across the front of the teaching area with his lunch. One day he came in late as usual and set a huge bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream on the desk and pushed it over to me. It mainly melted while I was lecturing but it was a sweet gesture." Q) If you weren't a professor, what would you be doing? A) I would love to own a food truck! Hands down--cooking and trying new foods are my favorite things to do. I suppose being a restaurant critic would be the best job EVER (getting paid to travel, eat and give your opinion!) Q) What's your advice to Clarkson students? A) With great power comes great responsibility and knowledge is power...so please take what you are learning and make the world a better place! Q) If you could put an item or a message in a time machine and send it back to yourself when you were in college, what would it be or what would you say? Why? A) "Slow DOWN and enjoy the moment!" Life goes by way too fast...you don't realize it until you are looking back and things that seemed like yesterday were 10-20 years ago. *sigh* ![]() April 26 Free pizza. Prizes. Puzzles. Competition. LAST KNIGHT STANDING is tonight at 10 p.m. in the Forum! Bring friends or arrive solo and we'll set you up with a team!
