When Medications Are Needed

The Clarkson Counseling Center does not prescribe any medications.  However, in order to meet the needs of our students, the following methods of accessing psychological medications for our students are used.

Prescription from their own medication provider:

A student may use a provider from their home community.  In this case, we encourage the student to come in for a regular sessions and to sign a release to enhance therapeutic coordination.

Student Health Services:

Health Services may prescribe minor anti-depressants / anxiety medications to student's who have relatively uncomplicated diagnosis.  They require the student to be seen by the Counseling Center in order to coordinate treatment.

Referral to a local psychiatrist:

If the student would like to see a local psychiatrist, the Counseling Center will work with them to make a referral.  It should be noted that the availability of psychiatric services in the North Country is limited and may require travel.
