Research Interests

Dr. McLaughlin is performing research on various topics in multiphase flow. One project, in collaboration with Dr. K. Kontomaris, involves the application of DNS to 2 phase flows using the lattice Boltzmann method. Of particular interest are the impact of drops with solid substrates and the coating of small particles. A second project, in collaboration with Professor Ahmadi, involves modeling of protective textiles with fibers with different wettabilities. A third project, also in collaboration with Professor Ahmadi, involves modeling of self-healing nanocomposite materials. A fourth project, in collaboration with Professors Ahmadi, Helenbrook, and Glauser (Syracuse University) involves DNS of air flow in a model room.
