Hydraulics & Water Resources Engineering Laboratory
The hydraulics laboratory contains two multipurpose 12-foot flumes and a 55-foot variable slope flume for multiphase flow studies. A wave basin 50 feet long, six feet wide, and two feet six inches deep also serves as a fixed bed channel. A towing carriage is mounted on the 50-foot basin and is used for calibration purposes. This flume is also equipped with a Sontek acoustic doppler velocimeter capable of measuring both the mean flow and turbulence in three directions, and pressure sensors for monitoring water levels and waves. A 35-foot head tank provides a maximum flow of 2-cfs to all locations within the laboratory. Several temperature-controlled refrigerated cold rooms are available for ice hydraulic experiments.
