Undergraduate Programs- Environmental Engineering
If you want the opportunity to work in an engineering job that can take you out of the office and into the field, then environmental engineering may be the discipline for you. It is among the fastest growing fields in the country, with opportunities in consulting, industry and government.
Environmental engineers provide the knowledge, leadership and guidance needed to improve the quality and ensure the sustainability of our natural world. From the water we drink, to the air we breathe, to the soil that produces our life-sustaining vegetation, environmental engineering is key. Clarkson emphasizes working not only on resolving problems and issues, but on preventing them from happening at all.
Environmental engineers work to:
- Eliminate hazardous and solid wastes
- Responsibly develop water resources
- Minimize the effects of pollution
- Use artificial intelligence to improve transportation systems
- Restore, preserve and sustain the environment
Some of the issues an environmental engineer can address are global warming, meeting clean water supply needs, acid rain and pollution reduction.
Clarkson offers a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering and graduate degrees in civil and environmental engineering, and environmental science and engineering.
At Clarkson, you will benefit from our excellent placement rate, extensive connections with employers and faculty who are teachers and researchers and who include undergraduates in their research. A Clarkson engineering education builds on teamwork, management, communication, leadership and creative problem solving. Clarkson students tackle complex, real-world challenges through hands-on, multidisciplinary competitions. Choose from among 14 different projects through our SPEED (Student Projects for Engineering Experience and Design) program.
Clarkson's Center for the Environment adds exceptional value for environmental engineering students. It promotes and supports campus-wide educational and research activities regarding the environment by applying expertise from many different disciplines.
Clarkson's Center for Air Resources Engineering & Science is focused on providing a better and more complete basis for air quality management in New York state. CARES brings together the world-class expertise available at Clarkson and students for air sampling and analysis, receptor modeling, atmospheric deposition and the application of computational fluid dynamics to air pollution problems.
