"A Sense of Accomplishment"

As a project engineer for Cianbro Construction Company of Pittsfield, Maine, since graduation, Shawn Maloney '05 has spent two years as a key crew member revamping the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems of the Washington Bridge on the Housatonic River in Connecticut.

Shawn admits he sometimes feels overwhelmed running a construction project right out of school. But, he notes, "My Clarkson education taught me well how to manage my time and take control when things get difficult." He also credits the team-building skills he acquired at Clarkson with enabling him to develop the network of resources on which he relies.

"My job offers me the opportunity to leave work at the end of the day and physically see the progress that has been made," Shawn adds. "It gives me a sense of accomplishment that I might never receive in other fields of work."
