About the CEC

About the CEC

The Eastman Kodak Center for Excellence in Communication provides communication support to students and faculty across Clarkson University. CEC facilities include a twenty-two seat communication and technology training classroom, teamwork areas, a digital video production room, a usability testing lab, and a writing center. In addition, the CEC staff offers communication curriculum consulting, special project support, and distance education design advice and support.

CEC Mission

  • Serve as a primary support facility for Clarkson’s goal of providing each student with the opportunity to develop and refine exceptional communication skills.

  • Provide a key campus resource in support of Clarkson’s goal of achieving maximum potential for the educational process through the effective integration of electronic technology and media.


Tasks

Faculty Workshops and Tutorials

  • Integrating communication opportunities and education into curricula and courses
  • Addressing accrediting agency requirements, with particular regard to issues identified through the outcomes assessment process
  • Developing and using educational technologies in instruction
  • Offering summer or between-semester workshops on distance education, communication technologies, or other topics
  • TA communication training and support

Student Workshops and Tutorials

  • Technology training for communication (developing websites with Dreamweaver, making videos with Premiere, etc.)
  • Specialized communication training for particular genres (resumes, email, presentations, etc.)
  • Providing in-class workshops in other departments (revising, team communication, usability analyses, etc.)

One-to-One Communication Tutoring

  • Offering drop-in or scheduled sessions with CEC Tutors
  • Providing web-based resources for communication (downloadable tutorials, helpsheets, etc.)
  • Developing interactive online spaces for communication consulting

Research in Communication, Technology, and Education

  • Conducting basic and applied research on communication technologies
  • Assist faculty in other programs and departments in constructing and evaluating communication aspects of research projects
  • Partnering with faculty in other programs and departments in basic research on communication, technology, and education
  • Initiating and assist in research grant opportunities
