Velcro USA Inc.
Christopher Cameron '10 (Mathematics)
For seven months, I had the opportunity to participate in a co-op at Velcro USA Inc., immersed in the hundreds of hook and loop products. My interest in math and statistics led me to the Six Sigma Program Office, where I was able to learn and use Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Through helping to implement their balanced scorecard infrastructure; assisting engineers with statistical data collection and analysis of processes; and designing, conducting, and analyzing a company wide survey, I was able to sharpen my interpersonal skills as well as those of flexibility, adaptation, communication, and taking initiative.
The projects and assignments permitted me to work with numerous employees, providing exposure to their roles and many different areas throughout the company, while allowing me to learn new skills, ask questions and expand my knowledge of the company. These experiences brought awareness of possible career options for myself.
I would not have had the initiative to seek a Velcro USA Inc. co-op and gain a great experience without the skills and education gained from previous work/internships and Clarkson University. It was a great step in my career development path and I would encourage anyone to seek out a co-op.
