Clarkson Student Spotlight: September '09

Terrence Austin '10
Financial Information Analysis major and Law minor

Bronx native and aspiring financial guru Terrence
seems like he’s all business at first glance, but don’t let him fool you, he has a goofy side too! When he’s not studying or hanging out with friends, Terrence is busy as a member of the CEO Club and a first year seminar educator. What else is Terrence up to? Let’s see.

Q: What did you do this summer?
A: The biggest and coolest thing I did this summer was when I went to Italy with the Global Business Program. It was an amazing experience!

Q: If you could reincarnate as any animal, which would it be?
A: I'd come back as an elephant because they're pretty much the exact opposite of me! I'm so skinny and they're so large and they're so graceful and poised and I am such a clumsy person!

Q: Why did you choose Clarkson?
A: I came and visited and loved the business department. It really was just a perfect fit.

Q: What is your favorite smell?
A: Garlic! I love the smell of it, I don't know why.

Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: In the short run, I want to do something in financial services, maybe become a banker. In the long run, I want to open small businesses so that I can start and fund a non-profit organization.

Q: What are your favorite things about Clarkson?
A: I love the winters and the cold weather! I also love the fact that you can be who you are, wear what you want, and do as you please. The campus is just very laid back and the people at Clarkson and in the surrounding community are so welcoming.

Q: Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you.
A: I love Bluegrass Country music, it cracks me up!

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
A: French fries. I love McDonald's!

Q: Who is your hero?
A: My grandmothers are both very strong women. One is a go-getter and the other brought all my family to the U.S. from South America with a sixth grade education. They're both incredible mentors!

Q: What has been the proudest moment in your Clarkson career?
A: Mine is like a series of moments. I love being able to help my friends with their homework or exams from classes that I've already taken or am in with them. Helping people always feels good.
