“Clarkson’s education and the experiences you have here are worth every penny,” says Cambray Merrick '12, who hails from nearby Lisbon, N.Y.
Cambray, an Adirondack Scholars award recipient, knew about Clarkson at a young age. She also knew that she wanted to come to Clarkson long before she won the scholarship. She says, “Winning the scholarship just helped enforce my decision to attend Clarkson. I wanted to come for the Engineering & Management (E&M) program and I knew Clarkson had an outstanding academic reputation.”
The Adirondack Scholars Award recognizes high school seniors from the North Country for their hard work and commitment to academics. Each recipient is awarded up to $6,000 per year towards their tuition. Students who attend schools in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Warren or Washington counties are able to apply for the Adirondack Scholars Award.
Now that she’s here, Cambray stays active in clubs such as Engineers Without Borders; the Society of Women Engineers; the Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (S-STEM) program; and the Women’s Club Hockey team.
“I love the small campus and the friendly, rural community. It reminds me of my own hometown,” she explains.
But what is most important to Cambray?
“I know that by graduating from Clarkson, I can get a good job to start off my career,” she says. “I have the skills and education I need thanks to Clarkson. That’s why I know it’s definitely worth it.”
