Professor Minko is an expert in colloid and polymer science and has done extensive work involving "Smart Responsive Functional Materials Based on Self Assembly in Polymer and Colloidal Systems."
His CAMP-related research interests include smart/responsive polymer materials, colloids, and textiles, nanostructured thin polymer films, nanotemplates and nanomembranes, formation of nanowires and nanoparticles, adhesion, wetting, adsorption phenomena , single molecule devices, and combinatorial methods in materials science.
Professor Sokolov's research interests are in the areas of Biological Physics, Advanced Materials, and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The focus of this work is on self-assembly and the study of interactions between nanoparticles. He also uses AFM to do research about human cells, self healing materials, and advanced microscopy.
CAMP Professor Liya Regel is Honored in Alabama, Speaks, and Displays her Artwork
Clarkson University Professor Liya Regel (of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and Director of the International Center for Gravity Materials Science) recently returned from a very rewarding visit to Alabama. She received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Alabama A&M University; and she accepted invitations to present a lecture while she was there on her scientific research, art, music and poetry, and to exhibit her colorful paintings at three locales. Professor Regel is the first member of the international scientific community, and the first female scientist, to receive an honorary degree from this university since it was founded in 1875. In yet another first, her diploma was signed by Alabama Governor Bob Riley.
On Monday May 8, Dr. Regel showed her paintings and exquisite miniatures at the Alabama State Black Archives Museum. On Tuesday, she gave an inspiring lecture, "Living in 3D: Science, Art and Music," to students, faculty and guests at Alabama A&M University. On Wednesday, she displayed her art at Huntsville's Modern Museum of Art, where she was presented with an official State Resolution by State Representative Laura Hall. On Thursday May 11 at A&M's 131st Commencement, Dr. Regel was presented with an Honorary Doctor of Science degree. Then she addressed the audienceof 18,000 that included the graduates, their families and friends, and members of the university community. Finally on Friday May 12, she concluded her trip by displaying her art at Decatur's historic Carnegie Visual Arts Center.
In addition to being internationally recognized for her pioneering research on heavy ion implantation in electronic materials, materials processing at high gravity and in space, and on diamond synthesis, Professor Regel is also an accomplished musician, composer, writer and artist. In 1993, Dr. Regel constructed the first centrifuge facility in the world dedicated to materials processing at high gravity at Clarkson University. In 2000, Dr. Regel's research led to her being honored with the prestigious Basic Sciences Award by the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA). The award was presented at the International Astronautical Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in recognition of her "contributions to the advancement of international cooperation and leadership in the advancement of materials research in space." She is the only materials scientist to have received this honor. IAA also honored Dr. Regel with its Best Book Award in1998.
Dr. Regel was educated in the former USSR. After completing a Ph.D. in physics, she earned the Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a prestigious degree beyond the Ph.D. for the significant achievements in solid state physics. She joined the faculty of Clarkson University in 1991 and has been directing the International Center for Gravity Materials Science and Applications, part of Clarkson's Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP). Clarkson recognized Dr. Regel's many contributions by awarding her an honorary doctor of science degree in 2002. She remains the only female Clarkson faculty member to havereceived this award.
CAMP Professor Gregory Campbell Honored with Clarkson University Emeritus Status
Clarkson University honored Professor Gregory A. Campbell with emeritus status at the University’s commencement ceremony on May 14, 2006. Dr. Campbell joined Clarkson University in 1984 as an associate professor in the Chemical Engineering Department. In 1996, he was promoted to professor and has since served Clarkson in senior positions such as chair of the Chemical Engineering Department, chief information officer, and interim dean of engineering. During his 22 years at Clarkson, Campbell has developed a worldwide reputation for his work in polymer processing and has raised over $4 million to support his research at the University. In addition, Professor Campbell has received several distinctions and awards, including the Society of the Plastics Industry Award of Excellence and the General Motors (GM) Research Laboratories Management Award for Distinguished Achievement. In recent years, he has delivered keynote lectures at the Japan Society of Polymer Processing Meeting and the European Meeting of the Polymer Processing Society in Sweden. Also he has been named a Fellow by the Society of Plastics Engineers .
