Clarkson University’s Professor Evgeny Katz Edits Two New Books
Evgeny Katz, the Milton Kerker Chaired Professor of Colloid Science at Clarkson University, has edited two new books, which will be published this spring by Wiley-VCH. The book Molecular and Supramolecular Information Processing: From Molecular Switches to Logic Systems, covers a variety of different systems in chemical computing. It describes exciting advances in this area such as the development of molecular, supramolecular and nanostructured systems operating as “hardware” for unconventional computing, the use of reaction-diffusion media for computational operations, as well as the creation of novel algorithms and computational theories for new “hardware” based on molecules rather than electronics. Biomolecular Information Processing: From Logic Systems to Smart Sensors and Actuators, describes the biocomputing system’s operation in a biochemical and even a biological environment. Here the most important application relates to biosensor/biomedical use. This book points out that the interfacing of biological systems with “smart” biosensors, signal responsive materials, and bioelectronic devices, is of great importance for future developments in the area of biomolecular computing.

Professor Katz has held the Milton Kerker Chair position since he came to Clarkson in 2006. Previously he was a research associate professor at Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a senior research scientist at theRussian Academy of Sciences. His research interests include biocomputing, biofunctionalized nanomaterials, bionanoengineering, bionanotechnology for bioelectronic applications, and biosensors.
