“The best part of the supply chain management curriculum at Clarkson is its systems approach to integrating business functions. It not only concentrates on single disciplines such as logistics, inventory management, information systems, or negotiations and partnership management, but also focuses on ‘the big picture’ and systems optimization.”

Global Supply Chain Management

Clarkson recognizes that we live in a world dominated by companies that collaborate and compete in a complex dance - all designed to get products and services delivered to customers around the world at the right time, in the right place, and at the right price.  Our Global Supply Chain Management programs will help you succeed in a globally connected marketplace and maintain networks of suppliers and customers that are fast, flexible, and responsive.  At the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels, Clarkson's programs provide you with fundamental knowledge for managing the supply chain from a systems perspective - that is as an interrelated system that manages products, processes, information, and financial resources both within and across organizations.  Each program gears content, experiential learning opportunities, and applications for the appropriate audience.

All of Clarkson's programs include coverage of both core supply chain knowledge as well as a range of integrated, systems-oriented, supply chain topics.

Core supply chain topics include:

  • Global sourcing
  • Inventory management and logistics strategies
  • Approaches to achieve supply chain flexibility
  • Coping with supply chain disruptions
  • Negotiations and partnership management
  • Distribution channels management

Integrated, systems-oriented supply chain topics include:

  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
  • A process management approach to quality
  • A global orientation
  • E-commerce-based strategies
  • An emphasis on communications and organizational skills for implementing GSCM solutions
  • Incorporating environmental sustainability perspectives

Our distinguished faculty, many of whom bring executive industry experience, is drawn from Operations Management, Marketing, Information Systems, Human Resource Management, Finance and Economics, and Strategic Management.

How do we approach supply chain management?  Explore our world from four different perspectives:

1) Undergraduate Education:  We offer an undergraduate major in Global Supply Chain Management within the School of Business and our Interdisciplinary Engineering & Management program offers a track in Global Supply Chain Management.

2) Graduate Education:  Our One-Year MBA program offers a track in Global Supply Chain Management and our Engineering & Global Operations Management Program has a significant core of supply chain coursework.

3) Executive Programs:  We offer an annual Global Supply Chain Management Executive Seminar for mid- and upper-level managers in August on our campus. Learn more about our upcoming August 2008 program.  We also provide custom programs for large and small organizations.

4) Faculty Research and Consulting:  We take a cross-disciplinary approach to supply chain research as well.  Meet our faculty and review some of their published research.
