General Questions


Where is Clarkson University located?
Clarkson University is located in upstate New York. Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, Potsdam, NY (The town in which Clarkson is located) is about 1.5 hours from many cities such as Lake Placid, NY; Watertown, NY; Ottawa, ON, Canada; and Montreal, QC, Canada.

When was Clarkson University founded? When was the School of Business at Clarkson established?
Clarkson University was founded in 1896. The Clarkson University School of Business was established in 1952.

How many alumni does the School of Business have?
The School of Business has over 6,300 alumni including those who have completed their undergraduate and/or graduate degree from Clarkson University. There are approximately 1000 alumni of the Graduate Business program.

How many full time faculty members are in the School of Business at Clarkson?
There are 37 full-time faculty members in the School of Business.

The online MBA program

Will my diploma specify that this is an "online" degree?
No. Your diploma will read 'Master of Business Administration' from Clarkson University.

How is the online MBA  accredited?
Clarkson's School of Business is fully accredited by AACSB International, the most prestigious accreditation available (www.aacsb.org).

How long is the online MBA program?
The program is designed to be a part-time, two year program.

Do I have to complete the program in two years?
Students may take up to five years to complete the program.

Can I take time off the program?
Yes. Students may miss sessions during the program and make them up at a different time.

How many credits and courses do I need to graduate?
To complete the program, you will need a total of 42 credit hours. This includes a total of 9 foundation courses, two 1.5 credit sessions, and four, 3 credit electives.

What does an average week look like for a student enrolled in the online MBA Program?
At any point during the program, a student will be taking two online courses at a time. Weekly schedules comprise group chats, group/team work, online deliverables and papers, and document submissions.

When do I start the program?
We have a quarterly calendar.  Students can start at the beginning of any quarter.  Our quarters begin in January, April, July and September.  Each year, new students will need to complete a three day face to face Leadership Development seminar. Visit the curriculum page to review the courses and time frame of each class.

What is the expected class size in the online MBA?
This program is designed for about 20-25 students.

Have the courses been designed specifically for online delivery?
Yes. Each course is designed for deliverables and presentation through the use of internet based technology.

How do students and faculty interact with one another?
Through the use of internet technology, each class will interact through chat and live online sessions.

Admission Requirements and Tuition


Do you accept transfer credits or grant credits based on work experience and certifications?
Clarkson will only accept up to nine credits of graduate level work from an AACSB accredited institution.

Do I need an undergraduate degree in business in order to apply?
No. This program is designed to teach you the foundations necessary as part of the required coursework. You may enroll in this program as long as you have completed a bachelor's degree and have been accepted.

How much full-time work experience do I need?
Work experience is not required for this program but it is highly recommended.

All Clarkson students will have access to resources on-campus students have. This includes access to library resources, career services, student administrative services, and much more.

Do I need to purchase any software in order to participate in the online program?
No. All software used to deliver the online MBA program is web based.
