Research

The research is centered on the effect of amphiphilic association structures on the properties of liquid dispersed systems, such as emulsions, microemulsions, foams and vesicle solutions.
Although the research is fundamental in nature, two recent discoveries have industrial relevance.
The first one is concerned with evaporation from and distillation of liquid dispersions, an area of decisive importance for dermatological pharmacy, personal care products, all coatings applications and many other fields.  Earlier attempts to clarify these processes have assumed the original structure to remain during evaporation and numerous efforts were made to relate the action of the formulation to the original structure.  These attempts were not successful. This result is explained by the research,  which revealed decisive structure changes to occur during the evaporation.  Hence, the action and processes connected with evaporation of a liquid dispersed system such as a coating or a dermatological formulation are a consequence of the new phases appearing rather than the original formulation. 
The second result is a discovery of a mechanism, by which anti- surface-active compounds may become surface-active due to the formation of association structures during evaporation or dilution.
