Edward Sayer '04
Edward Sayer '04
(Cm) of Voorhesville, New York, died October 5, 2005 , from complications
related to cystic fibrosis. Ed was particularly close to Aquatics Director Michael Maguire and his
fellow members of the Clarkson Swim Team. "Ed swam all four years and was team captain his junior and senior years," said Maguire. "He started swimming as a child, in part because it helped his breathing. Although he lived each day with a life-threatening illness, he was one of the most optimistic, positive people I have ever met. I feel privileged to have known him."

Robert Arlington Wyant
Robert Arlington Wyant
, a professor of electrical engineering at Clarkson from 1956 to 1973, passed away June 4, 2005. Early in his career Wyant had designed and built a strain gauge from scratch to assist him in his research on aluminum welding techniques. Gauges based on his original model played a significant role in accelerating the construction of military aircraft during World War II and in 1989 he was honored by M.I.T. as a pioneer in electric strain gauges. After his retirement from Clarkson, Robert received a certificate in tinsmithing from a craft school, and gave many demonstrations of 18th and 19th century tinsmithing around northern New York . He also became interested in engineering history and published two historical monographs on upstate New York manufacturing.
