Robert H. Donaldson '51 (ChE) has launched a successful partnership between his town of Denville, N.J., and a village in Sri Lanka to provide relief to the tsunami-stricken residents. Bob and his organizing group, with support from Denville officials, local business owners, and residents, are working directly with the town of Tirrokkovil, to ensure that donations are received directly by the village. Their fund-raising efforts have included a poster contest for school-aged children and a bowl-a-thon. In May, 18 sewing machines were delivered to Tirrokkovil and in September Bob traveled to Sri Lanka to deliver items requested by the village residents, including backpacks for children and a wheelchair for the hospital. Bob says more plans, including a micro-loan program, are in the works.
