Clarkson University / SUNY Upstate Medical Early Admission Program

The Clarkson University / SUNY Upstate Medical University Early Admission Program has been established for exceptional high school seniors who wish to attend medical school. Students who are admitted to this program will be granted admission to SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Medicine the fall semester following graduation from Clarkson. Students in this program do not have to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).

Preference will be given to those applicants which best fulfill the following criteria:

  • Minimum 90% average
  • Extra-curricular activities in a healthcare setting
  • Committment to service work
  • Minimum SAT scores of 1250 (combined Critical Reading & Math) or ACT score of 28 Composite
  • Reside in a Rural NY Community
  • Come from an underrepresented minority

Students selected by Clarkson’s Admission Committee will be interviewed by SUNY Upstate Medical before a final decision is made.  You must also provide a recommendation letter from someone who can describe your potential for a career in medicine by January 30.  Please use this Recommendation Form.

Undergraduate Requirements While at Clarkson University:

  • Maintain appropriate standards of honesty and integrity throughout the program.
  • Complete graduation requirements for a Bachelor of Science Degree from Clarkson, including all medical school prerequisite courses.
  • Complete and document 40 hours of volunteer service, strongly recommended in direct contact with patients and physicians in a medical setting while at Clarkson University.
  • Maintain and graduate with a 3.50 general and science-specific cumulative average.
  • The MCAT is not a requirement.
