Softball Field & West Athletic Soccer Field Construction

Clarkson University has added NCAA Division III level women’s softball to its intercollegiate athletic offerings. Construction will be complete ready for competition to begin in the 2013-2014 season.

The location of the west athletic soccer field will be modified to accommodate the new construction.

An area northwest of the Townhouse Apartments will be developed to accommodate Greek organizations and other shared-interest groups.

Each houses will be built in a Victorian Adirondack style and each design will incorporate many features of the organization’s current location. The houses will be located just off the Loop Road and have walking paths connecting them to the main area of campus, in support of our walking campus approach. Each house will be designed with sustainability as a guiding principle and be sited to minimize the impact on and preserve the beauty of the environment by working around healthy, valuable trees.

Woodstock Village Renovations

The renovations involve updating both the interior and exterior of each building while incorporating significant energy reducing measures. The exterior of the buildings are being renovated with an “Adirondack style.” Buildings 3, 5,6,7, and 9 have been completed. Building 2 is scheduled for a Summer 2014 completion. The following buildings are currently under construction with a Fall 2013 completion.

Price Hall Residence Improvements

Clarkson Avenue Main Entrance and Foster House Garden

The existing entrance road from Clarkson Avenue next to the President's House will be renovated to be a main entrance for the campus. Based on historical patterns for hosting alumni and student events, and projected continued usage of the president’s home to welcome guests of the University, the current garden to the south of the President’s House will be mirrored to double its size to more appropriately accommodate large groups. The garden will be enhanced by a wall, which will honor the memory of Helen Cheel and other significant donors.

Holcroft House (Welcome Center)

The Holcroft House is a former Clarkson family residence currently providing a home-like, welcoming approach by the Admissions staff. The new Welcome Center located on the first floor at the Holcroft house will utilize the former living room and adjoining dining room as a display area for Clarkson family memorabilia. Another area of the Welcome Center will provide for three- to- four large interview rooms that can accommodate prospective students and their families as well as other small groups of five- to- six people.

Renovation also provides additional needed parking for our Admissions building while improving the exterior presence of the building.

Moore House Green Space for Walking Campus

The second phase of the Hantz Field construction provides a new grandstand style of seating for the field along with needed landscaping around the field.

Physical Plant Relocation

The existing Physical Plant buildings and operation will be relocated from the Clarkson Avenue location to the property south of non-university property off Route 11. The purpose of this relocation is twofold: it will minimize safety issues regarding university equipment crossing the public roadway, and it will allow development of the waterfront property.

The new parking lot will be constructed in the wooded area located east of the loop road with an additional 190 spaces. This parking lot will service both the Cheel Campus Center and the CAMP buildings. It will be accessible by a road that extends from the maintenance drive, located on the west side of the Cheel building.
